TIPS FOR GETTING THE HAIRCUT YOU WANT

January 7, 2015

The actual number and type of hair salons out there is mind-boggling. There are traditional barbershops, fancier barbershops (where you can also get a shoeshine and a massage), salons, franchises and so on.  Haircuts can run 40 bucks or more and sometimes include a drink. This doesn't mean you won't get a good cut, but keep in mind that sometimes you're paying for a brand rather than the actual work being done. So how to choose? The best way to find anything is word of mouth! Find a place that provides quality work and has good customer service...that gives you personalized treatment instead of just being another computer entry. That place is us...THE BARBER PLACE.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR...

If you are a professional guy in a professional world, stop going to those franchise places. Yes, they are cheap-but so is your haircut.  Be realistic, haircuts usually run anywhere from $20-$35 in most places.  It's only an every 4-6 week thing.  Yes, you should be getting a trim or clean-up at least every 6 weeks.  This also is beneficial for your barber/stylist to give you a consistent cut on a regular basis rather than a complete makeover every 2 months or so.

KNOW WHAT YOU WANT...

Your barber is not a mind reader. Sometimes the difference between a good vs bad haircut is simply communication. Have a clear idea of what you want and communicate clearly to your barber...everyone has a different idea of what a "trim" is. A picture is always helpful if you are unsure of the terminology to use and the internet is full of men's haircut photos.   A barber cannot change your hair texture or create a new hairline for you, but they can give you the best cut to benefit what you do have.

LISTEN TO YOUR BARBER...

Barbers are paid to make you look good and feel good.  If your barber makes a suggestion, give it a try.  You may walk out with the best haircut of your life.  If you don't like the cut, don't worry...it'll always grow back!

LEAVE THE HAT AT HOME...

Some men never go anywhere without a hat firmly in place on top of their heads. However, wearing a hat before your cut can seriously wreck your chances of a good haircut. Hat head can make it difficult for the barber to find the natural growth pattern of the hair and be able to achieve the best cut possible.

CELL PHONE ETIQUETTE...

Leave your phone in the car or be sure to silence it prior to entering for your service. Reaching for your phone in your pocket to answer it or to silence it during a haircut can make your barber's job impossible and your haircut is likely to suffer.  Also, answering a call during a cut while others are in the waiting room waiting their turn can be extremely frustrating for the barber.
